Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

All states, including NY and NJ, require that anyone operating a motor vehicle:

  • with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) or gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), or gross combination weight (GCW) or gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 10,001 pounds or more; or
  • with a combined vehicle weight of 5,001 lbs.; or
  • designed to transport more than 15 people, or more than 8 people when there is direct compensation involved; or
  • transporting hazardous materials that require the vehicle to be placarded.

Are you a Landscaper, Bus Driver, or Truck Driver? Do you operate a vehicle of 10,001 lbs. (GVW) or a vehicle that is 5,001 lbs. (GCWR)? Commercial Driver’s License or not, if your vehicle weight rating is over 5,000 lbs., YOU NEED TO HAVE A DOT PHYSICAL.

The DOT Physical is designed to determine your “Fitness for Duty”. It consists of a vision examination, heart, respiratory, gait, neurologic, blood pressure and urinalysis. The exam takes approximately 60 minutes.

Upon successful completion you will be issued a Medical Examiner’s Certificate and wallet ID card.
